New Horsham MP John Milne calls for emergency Health and Care Budget following General Election result
Newly elected Liberal Democrat MP for Horsham, John Milne, has called for an emergency Health and Care Budget, to support local health services on the brink.
Having overturned one of the safest and longest-held Conservative seats in the Country, John Milne of the Lib Dems changed 144 years of history, beating the incumbent Jeremy Quin by 2,517 votes, with a turnout 10% above the UK average.
The Liberal Democrats put fixing the NHS and care at the heart of their general election campaign, including calls for more GPs, NHS dentists, and staffed hospital beds. The Party is now calling for an Emergency Health and Care Budget within the next four weeks, to provide urgent investment for local NHS and social care services.
Commenting, John Milne, Liberal Democrat MP for Horsham, said:
“I am incredibly proud of the positive campaign that the Liberal Democrats have run in Horsham, delivering the change that so many on the doorsteps were desperately crying out for.”
“Whether you voted for me or not, I will work tirelessly for you, to give Horsham the fair deal that we all deserve. That is why I am calling for an emergency Health and Care Budget to fix our NHS brought to its knees by years of Conservative party neglect.”
“Taking NHS dentistry as just one example, House of Commons Library research, commissioned by the Liberal Democrats, shows dentists leaving the NHS in West Sussex has risen by 19.4% since 2018/19.”
“We have listened to the concerns that countless frustrated local people have put to us, on the doorsteps, from the crisis facing our local health services to the filthy sewage being pumped into our waterways, and the cost-of-living crisis. Only yesterday I spoke to Horsham Matters Food Bank which is facing a shortage of key essentials.”
“I promise to be your local champion and take these issues right to the heart of Parliament.”
