Horsham NHS waiting lists are still going up, not down
- Rishi Sunak pledged to cut NHS waiting lists in January 2023 but instead they’ve risen a further 1,315 locally
- Waiting lists for the Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Trust now stand at 49,333
- Lib Dems call for a reversal of Conservative NHS real-term spending cuts that are leaving local health services overstretched
NHS waiting lists in Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Trust have hit a new high of 49,333 since Rishi Sunak made his pledge to cut them at the start of last year.
NHS data also reveals that more severe delays of over a year are increasing at an even faster rate. The total has jumped from 907 to 2,130 since Sunak made his waiting lists pledge.
This news comes as the Conservative government slashes funding for the NHS. The Autumn Statement revealed that the NHS budget has been cut by £3.5 billion (2.1%) in real terms this year, and is set to fall by another £1.3 billion (0.8%) next year.
Horsham Liberal Democrats are calling on the Conservative government to reverse the NHS spending cuts and invest in fixing local hospitals, hiring more staff and ensuring patients get the treatment they deserve.
Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Horsham, John Milne said:
“Far from fixing the NHS, the government continues to make the situation even worse in Horsham District.
“One year on from when Rishi Sunak promised that waiting lists would fall, things are moving in the exact opposite direction. Now this government is set to do the unthinkable and slash NHS funding even further.
“Today’s Conservative Party simply cannot be trusted with the NHS. We have a new generation of Conservative MPs who simply aren’t interested in public services any more. It’s time to elect a Liberal Democrat MP who will stand up for local health services.”
